I had a spare half hour on Sunday afternoon, which is a rarity at the best of times, and after being ready to settle down in the sunshine.. my kindle ran out of battery!! So instead of sitting there being unproductive I decided to make use of the left over flowers from college and had a go at a table decoration idea for a wedding.
I have had these galvanised steel pots (£4.99 from Homebase) for a while and after my failing attempts at growing herbs they had been put at the back of the cupboard.. I dusted them off and thought that they would make an interesting container for a ‘rustic’ wedding look.
I soaked the oasis blocks and cut it into thirds, fortunately one thirds skimmed slightly at the sides fitted almost perfectly into each pot. As the blocks were quite snug I didn’t use pot tape to secure them.
Being a nice afternoon I then went into the garden armed with my secateurs and the pots and started greening up the pots. I used various foliage from my garden including pittosporum, trailing ivy, and senecio … I also used some left over ruscus (I only had about three stems left) but I could have used a lot more together with some eucalyptus and herbs…. then as usual I forgot to take a picture half way through…
Once I had nearly covered the oasis I returned indoors to add the flowers. From my last day a college I had 4 white roses, freesias and a lot of gypsophelia left over, so I selected the best three roses and placed one in each pot, slightly off centre so the arrangement didn’t look too contrived. I then scattered the freesia and gypsophelia amongst the foliage.
I am very conscious of how much time flower arrangements, hand ties and buttonholes take me which is usually hours of adjusting or starting over…so I set myself a half hour time limit and with a little final tweaking this is the finished result…
